A Valuable Competition Experience

We are very proud of the results, but for young judoka, competition is about much more than medals.

Competition gives children an opportunity to step onto the mat independently, manage nerves and pressure, make decisions in real time and put the skills they have practised in training into action.

Every match brings a different challenge. Sometimes things work exactly as planned, and sometimes they do not. Learning from both experiences is an important part of long-term development in judo.

Our philosophy:
Junior competition is not only about winning today. It is about helping young athletes build strong fundamentals, confidence, discipline, resilience and the ability to continue learning through both success and setbacks.

Developing Young Judoka on the Gold Coast

At Hirose Judo Academy, our goal is not simply to produce short-term competition results. We focus on building strong fundamentals and developing each child at an appropriate pace.

Our kids judo classes on the Gold Coast welcome complete beginners as well as young athletes who want to progress toward competition.

Children begin by learning movement, balance, safe falling and basic judo skills before gradually progressing to more advanced technical and competitive training. Parents who are new to the sport can also read our beginner judo guide for kids and parents .

STEP 01

Strong Foundations

Movement, balance, ukemi, coordination and fundamental judo techniques.

STEP 02

Confidence & Growth

Learning to face challenges, make decisions and continue after mistakes.

STEP 03

Competition Pathway

Technical and tactical development for children who choose to compete.

Competition Is a Pathway, Not a Requirement

Not every child who joins Hirose Judo Academy needs to become a competitive athlete.

Some children train to build confidence, coordination and discipline. Others enjoy learning judo with friends. Some eventually decide they want to compete at state, national or even international level.

All of these pathways are valued.

For parents considering judo for the first time, you may also find our guides on whether judo is safe for kids and the best age for children to start judo helpful.

Congratulations, Toma, George and Lim

For a growing academy, seeing three young athletes represent Hirose Judo Academy and all three reach the podium was a very encouraging result.

More importantly, each athlete gained valuable competition experience that they can now bring back into the dojo.

Congratulations to Toma, George and Lim on your performances. We are proud of the way you represented Hirose Judo Academy.

Now it is back to training, learning and preparing for the next challenge.

Step by step, we keep growing together.
