Rika Hirose won a silver medal at the 2026 Cadet European Cup in Bielsko-Biala, Poland, after recently moving up to the U52kg division.

This was an important step in her long-term development as an athlete, competing internationally against strong European opponents in a new weight category.

Moving up a division always brings new physical and tactical challenges, but Rika showed strong composure throughout the tournament and continued to improve match by match.

Competing in Europe provides valuable experience for young Australian athletes, especially through exposure to different judo styles, gripping strategies, and high-level international competition.

Following the tournament, the team also participated in an international training camp in Poland, where athletes had the opportunity to train with judoka from many countries.

At Hirose Judo Academy, we strongly believe that long-term athlete development is more important than short-term success. Experiences like these help athletes continue to grow physically, mentally, and technically.

We are very grateful to the coaches, training partners, teammates, and everyone supporting the Australian team throughout this European tour.
